• A stormwater retention pond – also known as a “stormwater basin”: collects water runoff. When rain falls on a surface that doesn’t allow water to soak into the ground, it flows into your retention pond or “drainage pond”. Retention ponds can be “dry”, i.e. only collect stormwater when it rains, or “wet”, they have a consistent water supply.
• Bio Cells & Bio Swales: depressions or channels with vegetation to help control erosion as stormwater run offs to your stormwater pond. These are also called infiltration trenches.
• Bioretention systems, i.e. Rain Gardens: Stormwater runoff enters the bioretention area and is temporarily stored in the rainwater garden. The stormwater filters into the rain garden and is absorbed through the vegetation. Excess water can be collected in a drainage system under the garden.
• Filtration Systems Built in filtration systems that are placed at a low spot on your property that allow water to flow through sand, peat or other medium and filter out pollutants.
